PHPA

PHPA — Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide

Shale encapsulator and borehole stabilizer used in PHPA mud systems; available as dry and liquid concentrates depending on origin.

Application

Inhibitive water-based muds for reactive shales, including PHPA and related polymer systems. Molecular weight and hydrolysis degree must match the mud programme.

Technical characteristics (quality certificate)

Typical values as stated on a mill quality certificate (passport) for a standard commercial grade. Actual lot values are confirmed in the COA / TDS for the selected manufacturer.

API fluid loss (max)

Per functional class / grade

API RP 13B-2 / API 13A

Shale inhibition / encapsulation

Per polymer molecular weight

API RP 13I

Loss on drying

≤ 10%

API 13A / Manufacturer TDS

Reference profile for orientation. For each supply we confirm grade, origin and certificate data against your specification, well conditions and delivery requirements.

Typical functions

  • Shale encapsulation
  • Cuttings integrity
  • Borehole stability support
  • Friction reduction in selected systems

Product information

Chemical name
Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide
Formula / class
PHPA
Appearance
White powder / granules or viscous liquid emulsion — depending on the selected form.
Packaging
Bags for dry grades; drums or IBCs for liquid grades. Confirm with the selected manufacturer.

Dry and liquid PHPA products are not drop-in equivalents. Charge density, molecular weight and carrier fluids differ by brand. Do not assume interchangeability with a named commercial polymer without TDS comparison.
